Bird Watching
Bird Watching
Gonyeli and Kanlikoy Reservoirs
are the two bird watching sites in Nicosia.
The reservoirs provide good bird watching all year round and
more than 110 bird species have been seen at the two sites.
Korucam Burnu is a bird watching site in Kyrenia.
This is a particularly good area in the spring and offers
many interesting species. Gecitkoy Reservoir is another site
in Kyrenia. Because the water supply is permanent, bird watching
is possible all year round and many different species of water
birds have been seen here.
Koprulu Reservoir is in Famagusta
and is a good site that requires more than one visit.
For bird watching in the Karpaz
area there is Lake Mehmetcik and The Karpaz Peninsula. In
the spring you can see the passage of falcons, harriers and
buzzards.
The lake in Limassol
is host to large number of Greater Flamingos and a variety
of ducks.
Paphos
is an unspoiled paradise for bird watchers at any time, but
particularly during the migration season. Dhiarizos Valley,
a few miles south of Paphos, offers the only real extensive
freshwater on the island and you should see Black Francolin,
Woodchat Shrike, Tawny Pipit and many more.
