Camping
There are several official camping sites in the Kyrenia and Famagusta areas which
offer services such as washrooms, toilets, restaurants, bars, etc. However the
more intrepid visitor may wish to venture out into the wild where there are no
such facilities. There are no restrictions on such activities except that lighting
fires in forest areas is an offence.
The most common places for camping area are:
Silver Beach
Situated at the far south of the Salamis ruins, this is a great spot for swimming
and snorkeling. The sand shelves slowly making it safe for children. It is most
interesting to explore the now submerged harbor of the ancient city. There are
not many facilities here other than cafeteria.
Kaplica Village
There is a nice camping area in Kaplica Village
offering both camping place and bungalow to enjoy the beauty
of the sandy beach . The quiet atmosphere and the natural
environment are the major factors especially for the local
people to choose this place.

Free Camping
There are numerous opportunities to free camp. In the winter
months (Oct.-April) you will be restricted to the coastal
regions becauseof the cold weather in the mountains. (Mount
Olympus is over 6000ft. in height). At present Cyprus has
not yet caught on as a destination for winter motor caravanning.
On our last winter visit we were the only foreign Motorhome
on the island. It is very peaceful. There is very little crime
on the island. Most problems are caused by tourists in the
high season.
