Mountain biking
In the North as well in the South the uplands are ideal
for mountain biking. Both the Troodos range and the Kyrenia
Mountains are covered with network of dirt forest trails which
would be extremely tedious for hiking but are paradise. With
the guidance or group biking you are able to complete both
ranges in a couple of days. Mountain bikes are for sale predominantly
in South Nicosia and Limassol, and for rent in the main Troodos
resort of Platres. Only very few bikes are equipped with pumps
or tyre repair kits. The repair shops are found in most of
the South’s larger towns which you may find useful when
buying patches or replacing a pump worn out from constantly
pumping up flat tyres. Plenty of thorns on the road ensure
an instant incidence of punctures and there is the usual hot-country
problem of the sun melting the rubber material, so do not
leave your bike in full sun.
