Visa Requirements

If you are travelling to Cyprus for business or pleasure you might or might not need a visa depending on your passport and the length of your visit.

Visas are not required by nationals of over 50 countries including the USA, Canada, Australia and all EU member countries.

If you are required to have an entry visa to Cyprus, you may apply for a short-stay visa or a multiple-entry visa. If you are planning to stay in Cyprus for a period longer than three months you will need to apply for a long-stay visa. Getting to Cyprus

a. By Air

Most short-stay visitors to Cyprus from Europe arrive by air as part of an all-inclusive package. Frequent scheduled and chartered flights operate year-round from London and other European cities.

Fares always depend on the season. With slight variations for each market, the high season is usually between June and late September, plus the Christmas season; and the low season covers the periods between October and December and January to late March.

There are two airports in Cyprus: Larnaka International Airport and Pafos International Airport. The first operates most of the commercial flights in and out of the island and the second operates mainly charter flights (but not only).

The national carrier is Cyprus Airways, and most European airlines operate schedules to the island. There are no direct flights between Cyprus and any North or South American countries, Australia, South Africa and most Asian countries.

b. By Boat

Mediterranean cruise ships stop at Lemesos port. Shipping traffic between Europe and Cyprus is also conducted from the harbour here; there are connections to the Greek islands of Rhodes, Crete and to the port of Pireaus (Athens). Crossing to Pireaus takes about 48 hours and ticket prices depend on the season.

Passenger ferry service is also available between Cyprus and Israel, Lebanon and Egypt.

Most ferry services will also transport motor vehicles. Prices vary according to the season.

Travel Packages and Deals

Cyprus is one of the most packaged destinations in the Mediterranean. Package prices usually include accommodation for one or two weeks, flights and meals.

Prices vary depending of the season, which is assessed different by each tour operator. Usually the high season is reckoned as late June through late October.

Tour operators’ brochures usually promote additional activities as part of the Cyprus experience. You can find specialised packages focused on water sports, golf and even wedding packages. Mini-cruises to Egypt, the Greek islands or Lebanon are popular add-ons to package deals.

Where to Stay

While the majority of visitors to the island arrive on some kind of package deal that includes accommodation, there is also the possibility for independent travellers to book a place to stay directly via phone or online.

The Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) oversees and grades all accommodation on the island. Their names, locations and prices are shown on the “Guide to Hotels and other tourist establishments” issued annually.

a. Hotels

All hotels in Cyprus graded one star or over have en-suite bathrooms. Hotel rooms are most frequently offered on Bed and Breakfast (B&B) basis, with continental breakfast included.

Rates must be posted either in the room itself or over the reception desk on a Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) validated placard.

It is recommended to book your accommodation in advance if you are travelling during the peak season. Most of the large establishments can be booked online and offer special internet rates.

b. Hotel Apartments and Villas

A good percentage of accommodation is self-catering in the so-called apartments or apart-hotels, or the larger semi-detached houses or villas.

These are all well-equipped with kitchens and all the comforts necessary to make you feel at home. Some of the villas, especially in the Pafos area, have their own private swimming pools.

This type of accommodation is usually preferred by families with younger children who appreciate the functionality of having their own space without the limitations of a full-service hotel.

c. Agrotourism

These are usually restored village houses that offer character accommodation and a great way to experience life in Cyprus like the Cypriots.

This is an increasing popular programme backed by the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) and you can find all the contact details to book an agro-tourism house on the CTO’s guide to hotels and other tourist establishments under the section entitled “traditional houses.”

Some selected tour operators include agro-tourism properties as part of their Cyprus programme.

Arriving to Cyprus

Cyprus has two international airports: Larnaka International Airport and Pafos International Airport.

a. Practicalities

When you arrive at any of the two airports you should be aware of the following:

If you are a non-EU visitor, you should hold:

• an onward/return ticket
• the entry documents required for your next destination and sufficient funds for maintenance during their stay in Cyprus
• proof of a hotel reservation

Health information:

• No vaccinations are required to enter Cyprus
Airport Taxes:
• No airport taxes are levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport

You cannot enter Cyprus with any of these prohibited products:

• Natural fruits and flowers
• All types of meat products originated in non-EU countries, all milk products with the exception of powdered infant milk and infant food provided this does not require refrigeration before consumption and
- is a packaged product
- the packaging is unbroken

b. Transfers

Both airports in Cyprus have good transport links.

Airport transfers to and from Larnaka International Airport are offered by:

• Kapnos Aiport Shuttle (to/from Nicosia)
• Intercity buses (to/from Larnaka, Lemesos, Ayia Napa and Protaras)
• Limassol Airport Express (to/from Larnaka, Lemesos)

Airport transfers to and from Pafos International Airport are offered by:
• Limassol Airport Express
• Pafos City Buses
