    This store has similar prices to Carrefour but it is way bigger. It seems very well laid out and there is a health food section with wheat pasta and other stuff you could search Carrefour all day for but never find. I'll be back.

    As an American student abroad, I am very pleased with Global Learning Semesters. Staff are all very friendly and willing to help with issues that inevitably arise as a foreigner in Cyprus. Example? The horrendous public transportation. GLS staff members have all been accommodating and willing to translate Greek instructions to help me plan my trips around the island.

    This place always seems to have a "sale" going on...which is why all the clothes are deceptively expensive. If budget isn't an issue, though, there is a wide array of stuff from which to choose. The store is huge.

    They are generally helpful...once you get to the teller. In the few times I've been there to exchange dollars to euros, they have been understaffed, with patrons crunched to keep the line indoors. Otherwise it is sufficient.

    They have everything. Some of the appliances are pricey, but if you need a lot of stuff for the house/ apartment, Super Home assures that you won't need to run all around Nicosia to find it all.

    Gyromania is delicious, quick, and inexpensive...a great mix for college students. And it's a 5 minute walk from the University of the Nicosia, nestled right next to the Mall of Engomi. The first time I stopped in, the owner welcomed my friends and me with free glasses of Cypriot wine. Very friendly staff. Ask for a "small chicken/beef/pork gyro with salad, tzantziki, and chips"--only 3 euros!

    Zorba's is open 24/7, stocked with delicious baked cakes, confections, and breads (some of which you can sample for free), staffed by friendly employees who will slice your still-warm loaf of bread for you, and located right down the street from the University of Nicosia. I can think of no cons about Zorba's bakery.

    Carrefour is awesome. They have everything, and there is a huge sign in front of the store before you walk in that details all the sales going on for the day. For newcomers, I recommend taking a second to observe what the locals are (and aren't) buying. Fruits and veggies are cheap and fresh. Buy meat and cheese from the deli; avoid prepackaged, and avoid American brand names, which are often outrageously expensive. You'll get the hang of it. I have no complaints. Great location, too, in the Mall of Engomi right across from Super Home (and Cinnabon...mmm...)

    Brickyard is solid. Pool: check. Big screen TV's: check. Heaters outside with inexpensive and sterile hookah: check. My only complaint is the drinks are a tad pricey. It is also worth mentioning a bad experience I had here watching the Super Bowl. An angry American football fan, unprovoked, approached a patron minding his own business and ripped his shirt, then later belligerently shattered some glasses and a picture frame off the wall, then later still confronted another one of my friends, unprovoked. Bouncers, anyone?

    They sometimes have the door open at night when it is cold. Crepa Land is also oddly spaced out as far as the cash register; they can't really accommodate a line. The crepes are expensive and deceptively rich (and unhealthy)...you're better off going with a "Bella" crepe for something more filling. I found the staff also a little awkward.

    The Troodos mountains is a great getaway for students of Cyprus who are growing sick of the city scape and lack of trees. I went with the Global Learning Semesters trip, which led us to some quaint cafes and local shops, plus trails that you can get lost in (in a good way). I hear there is also skiing. For Nicosia residents, especially, it is a reasonable day trip that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on school/work for weeks.

    From what I've gathered, there are 2 buildings: Millennium and Europa. If only it were this simple...there are classrooms that seem to be located in hallways between buildings, and main reception is often busy or unhelpful. There is a bulletin board posting the locations of classes, however (if you know how to find 'M206'). The campus is cozy and it takes less than 5 minutes to get from one end to the other. Aside from the classrooms, though, the "gym" is pathetically small, the library is down the street, and I even heard the other day that there is a Counseling Center!...downtown, that is, s

    Very big with 3 bars, a VIP area for international students to mingle, and a huge dance floor. Bartenders are friendly and free alcohol is not hard to come by. Good vibes, people come to dance. Go with people you know, though, or you can get lost in the huge dance floor that tends to fill up with a younger, highschool-esque crowd. Also there is really nowhere to escape and talk but the tiny curb outside--it is loud everywhere.

    Fun and free to get into when I went. A good place to go with friends and dance...they play loud, American club music. I like that there are multiple levels for different vibes: couches for sitting, the bar with plenty of seats, dance floor, and chairs and tables outside to get a little escape. Drinks were a little pricey but that's to be expected with free admission. I will be back.

    Ivanhoe's is a quaint, quiet bar. Pool, TV, reasonable drinks. The owner will put on American football for international students (see pictures). It's solid.

    It was a little expensive, and the menu is sort of hard to navigate. I was surprised to find that rice doesn't come with main dishes. Nonetheless, the food was very good (sweet and sour chicken is awesome) and the service was quick. You could do much worse in old town than Chopsticks.

    Bread and Butter is amazing. Cheap, delicious, quick, friendly, outdoor tables, the whole 9. I got the cheeseburger which was incredible and only 3.50 euros--next time I plan on trying one of their juices, which look exotic and crazy. A juice plus a sandwich is only 5 euros. PLUS they deliver. This is the best stop for your money near the University of Nicosia.

    The Sushi La Bar was unimpressive in my lone visit to the restaurant. I went on a Monday evening (11 p.m.) and ordered the chicken teriyaki salad. It was way too spicy, and very small for 9 euros to boot. It is expensive. It is dark with loud, offbeat music blaring. The whole experience seemed weird to me and I will not be back again.
