Archontiko Papadopoulou – Cultural Centre for Cypriot Gastronomy, Wine and Ceramic Art of Kornos

Where Authenticity Meets Delicacy

"I was moved to tears when I visited Archontiko Papadopoulou, this is the blue print of how everything in Cyprus should be done. I do not recommend you visit it when in Cyprus I insist you go, it is the best of the Island, the best Cypriot wines, the best Cypriot food all wrapped up in the best lesson of our culture. It made me proud to be Cypriot, seeing our history so tastefully restored".

Archontiko Papadopoulou at Kornos village aims at presenting and promoting Cypriot cultural heritage related to gastronomy, wine and pottery art of Kornos. It is based in a traditional restored house with architectural and morphological features of neoclassical style. Dating back to 1897, it is one of the few houses of its type and era in the region that have survived over the years.

Archontiko Papadopoulou is multi-purpose building that houses a variety of activities, revolving around wine-gastronomy and ceramic art. In particular, Archontiko Papadopoulou includes a high-level Cypriot cuisine ala-carte restaurant, a coffee shop, a cafeteria, a wine cellar, a Commandaria bar, a shop selling traditional Cypriot products, a library and a pottery workshop open to all visitors.

After many years of thorough research into old, traditional, forgotten recipies, today the Archontikon Papadopoulou proudly presents a high-level, upgraded Cypriot cuisine. The Culinary Team of Archontiko Papadopoulou has revived these recipies, while at the same time maintaining the authenticity of the old, traditional, Cypriot cooking, within a modern framework of haute cuisine, and using only first-grade, fresh and traditional Cypriot products. Everything is cooked in extra virgin olive oil and flavoured with freshly-picked Cypriot herbs.

Archontiko Papadopoulou uses only traditional, fresh ingredients of Cyprus (free range chicken and domestic meat), which are cooked in virgin olive oil and freshly picked Cyprus herbs. The cultural center encloses a new pottery studio, library, shop (the old grocery store), Commandaria bar, cafeteria and a wine cellar.

Our underground wine cellar offers a wide selection of premium wines from Cyprus vineyards (more than 2000 bottles and 200 different labels) recommended by the Wine Tasting Panel of Archontiko Papadopoulouconsisting of:

Emmanouil Andreas (Oenologist, President of the Cyprus Oenophile Club)

Georgiou Thoukis (Oenologist)

Kassianos Georgios (President of the Cyprus Sommeliers Association)

Kythreotou Florentia (Wine and Gastronomy Author)

Manoli Vasos (Sommelier- Champion for Cyprus 2009)

Pavlides Demetris (President of the Wine Club and Wine Author)

Vrontis Demetris (Professor and Wine Marketing Researcher / Author)

The cellar houses the oldest Commandaria found today in Cyprus, dating back to more than one hundred (100) years. The forgotten Commandaria was discovered in a concentrated form in a clay urn. It is considered one of the leading wine discoveries of the last century, both from a historic and scientific point of view. Part of the concentrated substance was recently restored by the Department of Agriculture (Viticulture and Oenology Section), Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Recourses and Environment.

Food, atmosphere, wine selection, service, experience!!!

I would love to give this restaurant 6 and 7 stars out of 5 - it's that good!

    Let's see ....

SERVICE - excellent! I have not seen such service in Cyprus for many years. Basically the waiter was invisible, serving, filling glasses and taking empty dishes away without noticing him, but at the same time he was there to answer any question about the dishes, the wines or the restaurant. His knowledge of all the wines we asked about and the ingredients of the food was amazing. Also, as you walk into the restaurant you are greeted with fragrant rose water to "wash" your hands with.

RESTAURANT - the restaurant was an old house and shop - the centre of the town it seems. It has been done out beautifully and includes a wine cellar that stocks many beautiful Cypriot wines.

FOOD - WOW WOW WOW !!!! We tried the multiple dishes and everything was beautiful - each one had it's own unique taste. There were some known dishes that tasted great and some unknown ones that were wonderful. The cheese wrapped in kataifi was incredible.

WINE - ONLY Cypriot wines and they showcase the very best having bottles going back to 1967!!!!!!!

COMMANDARIA - under the restaurant was found Commandaria (Cypriot sweet dessert wine) that dates back many years. They have the only Commandaria bar in Cyprus with over 30 different Commandaria to try.

PRICE - The dishes were no more expensive than eating at well known American diners in Cyprus!!!! Drinks were very reasonably priced, especially the wines.

Overall, this was a wonderful meal - food, drink and overall experience and I did not expect the level of service here. They also have private rooms where you can have a private party and service all to yourselves.

One final thing, the owner also makes pottery by hand. A lovely little touch at the end of the meal - we were given a miniature water vase!

I have recently been to Archontiko Papadopoulou and I really enjoyed its unique atmosphere. It is a blend of modernity and tradition of Cypriot culture. Once you enter the Kornos village, Archontiko Papadopoulou stands out as a different place with its beautifully renovated appearance, ambiant interior design, pottery works of art, and delicious menu!

The Village Salad is my first recommendation mainly because of its tasty dressing. Then comes Pasta with Zucchini which was really delicious. Finally, the Cyprus coffee with shiny spoon sweets completed my lunch at Archontiko Papadopoulou.

I absolutely recommend this place to everyone becuase it's a place where you can eat delicious Cypriot food, drink high-quality Cypriot wines, and enjoy the rich Cypriot culture!

Archontiko Papadopoulou is a little oasis in the desert of Cypriot gastronomy. The first spoonfull will reward you with a Pandaisia of amazing tastes ... the second will send you to the heavens. Seriously, take your partner out for a quiet night at Archontiko Papadopoulou and he (or she) will fall in love with you once more ... If you are patient enough to wait a little bit, the Chef may visit you at your table to talk to you about the experience. Try it ...

Archontiko Papadopoulou is a great hospitality establishment with a magnificent emphasis on the menu, wine list, service and atmosphere. It has an excellent value for money restaurant that serves high quality dishes and the best of Cyprus wine, all in one romantic yet historic ambiance. Archontiko Papadopoulou is the most authentic, both by professionalism and by character, hospitality establishment in the island of Cyprus.

Its respect towards Cypriot culinary tradition, while being also creative and imaginative

I have visited 'Archontiko Papadopoulou' three times over the last few weeks, and every time I left with the most positive impressions. The food is unquestionably excellent, with great attention to detail, and all ingredients are of high quality and respectfully blended and used. Both the food and the wine menus are clearly the result of careful selection and they are 100% Cypriot, in the best possible sense. Moreover, the service and ambiance of 'Archontiko Papadopoulou' match its cooking. This is not just a restaurant; it is an experience worth having.

It is totally authentic and the staff are wonderful

On Monday I spent the day at the most amazing place, if you are in Cyprus this summer you MUST visit. It's called Archontiko Papadopoulou, in Korno. It has the best Cyprus has to offer and the restaurant there cooks only Cypriot food, using modern & ancient recipes, and all the ingredients are indigenously sourced, can't wait to go back".

'I had the pleasure to visit Archontiko last Friday with friends and associates from Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative - CSTI. I was really impressed from the overall project as I had also the pleasure to visit the place 3 years ago before the renovation as well during fall when my department supported the service for the Young Volunteers' charity event (which was under the auspices of the First Lady of Cyprus: Mrs Elsie Christofia). Archontiko provides a combination of authenticity and unique gastronomy, providing at the same time a high quality service and a very nice friendly atmosphere.'
