The Commandaria Historical Museum in Zoopiyi village opened in 2010. The building is which it is housed is the work of Cypriot Architect Yiannis Ameftis and Associates and is considered a good example of contemporary architecture in Cyprus.
The Museum has been created by the Community Council of Zoopiyi that is situated in the region of the Commandaria villages of Limassol and is sponsored 50% frin National Resources and 50% from the Regional Development fund of the EU. The project was inspired by the existance of the Zoopiyi Commandaria Winery founded in 1940 (still active) around which the Museum is organised.
The permanent exhibition that occupies 4 galleries is organised by period and subject. Through replicas of Cypriot ancient wine vessels and visual means, the history of Commandaria is presented along with aspects of everyday life, art and wine culture.

Well explained, all the information is there, well laid out
We had taken a trip over the mountains to Zoopigi to find the museum dedicated to the making of Commandaria. The building is impressive and incorporates a working winery within.
It was a good experience overall, but it left you wanting more as so much more could have bene done with the museum.
The guide explained everything in detail and certainly knew his subject explaining everything in great detail. The place that lets it down is the fact that there could have been much better use of modern technology to show so much more about the Commandaria process and history.
It was well worth the trip, but if it had been more modern in its approach to presenting Commandaria and its history, then it would have gotten 5 stars. They also need to have a web site so poeple can find it easier.
