Food, Price, Service, Speed, Freshness
I learnt from the best - my late father. His fish & chips were excellent - not my view, but the view of the multitude of people that came from near and far to his fish shops in the UK.
I have been in Cyprus since 1989 and have heard of this "good" fish shop in Dhekelia on and off for years. In fact my late father also visited it and he came back with an opinion of "it is very good" - great praise from the maestro himself.
But the paths of the restaurant and mine had never crossed ... until today.
"Five cod and chips please, mushy peas, pickled onions and some gherkins" was the order today.
What can I say? It was good. VERY good and the rumours do it justice.
Hot chips, perfectly cooked moist cod in a crispy thin batter - JUST how it should be - and a taste that reminded me of the cod and chips I used to have at my dad's place.
What came as a surprise was the bill. For five people, with drinks and all the food, it came to €53.00 Euros - just over €10 per person - with prices like that for the size of the portion that you got, NO ONE can complain.
One of the people that I was with, who had been before told me that any day of the week (apart from Sunday where they are closed), day or night, you would find the place packed as it was. But even so, the service was very quick, the food was hot, the prices were excellent and the view to the beach was lovely.
I only find myself asking ... "why the hell did it take me so long to get to this place - 1989 to 2013 ?????"
