    Excellent food

Have been to Sawa a few times and every time the food has been very good - it's best to make a reservation as they can get very full sometimes.

The Arabic "meze" is a good place to start of you do not know the different dishes, but after that you can try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Overall, a good introduction to Arabic cuisine and restaurant with a great atmosphere.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food, AMAZING ICE CREAM

I first had dinner at Sawa about a week ago. I'm a big fan of Middle Eastern cuisine and this was one of the few Syrian restaurants that I hadn't tried.

Overall, it is a solid option when in the mood for these types of flavors. I really liked all the dishes and was pleasantly surprised to see some not-so-usual offerings. We went for the meze option and that included 2 salads, one of which was a Fattoush salad, not sure about the other one. The other small dishes included a few of the usual suspects (hummus, stuffed vine leaves) but also a couple of things I haven't seen anywhere, like some type of thin veggie-burgers that were quite delicious. The pita bread was warm and fresh.

The main meat dishes were also great and excellently seasoned. I wasn't too impressed with the selection of wines. We had a Greek red.

What I really liked was the atmosphere. The waiters are very friendly and speak English, Arabic and some of them also speak Greek. The service is good. There is a huge open air area in the back that opens in the Spring, Summer and early Fall. This adds a lot to the capacity of the restaurant and in total it can serve huge amounts of people. It also looks like it would be ideal for events. I also liked the decoration and the menus made real impression on me with their ornamental design and wooden casing.

However, my highlight was the Mastiha ice cream they make and serve at Sawa. It is absolutely DIVINE! Creamy, sticky and delicious, sprinkled with pistachios. Simply the best mastiha ice cream I have ever tried!

Recommended, probably my no.1 option for Syrian in Nicosia at the moment.
