Welcome

The Tsangarides winery is situated in the lovely old village of Lemona, 39 minutes drive from Paphos. It's here our Great Great Grandfather prepared the land and planted out the first vineyards, tending and nurturing the fruit of the vine in much the same way as his descendants do today. Then, the wine made was mainly for domestic consumption, but slowly, over many years the accumulated knowledge gleaned from travel and education via foreign winemakers has resulted in the wines becoming more than acceptable to European palettes.

Loukia in partnership with her brother Angelos have now been passed by their father the mantle of responsibility to ensure the winery continues to thrive and delight the palettes of those aficionados eager to relish their selection of award winning wines.

With such a solid history of wine running through their veins it is clear the Tsangarides winery is en-route to opening up yet more 'wine frontiers' as they face the ever changing challenges of modern winemaking.

'Tis when men drink wine they thrive, grow wealthy, speed their business, wine their suits. make themselves happy, and benefit their friends. Go, now, fetch me a stoup of wine, and let me moisten my wits and utter something bright'
Aristophanes

The Setting

The winery is to be found at the edge of the village of Lemona, nestling in a sleepy valley situated slightly off the beaten track close to the villages of Amargeti, Letimbou and Houlou. The village reveals to visitors lovely examples of Cypriot rural life and architecture, for this is a place which has not been tainted by modernity, retaining as it does the character and personality of what life in a Cypriot village used to be like over fifty years ago.

The sheltered fertile land that surrounds this mainly farming community, is key to the wineries success, as are the villagers who help support the family both in the planting, and harvesting of the Tsangarides vineyards. Having laid aside land for the allotted period of time, organic vines will now be added to the wineries select range of labels.

'I have enjoyed great health at a great age because every day since I can remember, I have consumed a bottle of wine. Except when I have not felt well, then I have consumed two bottles'
Bishop of Seville

The Winery

'Wine makes daily living easier, with fewer tensions and more tolerance'
Benjamin Franklin

The priority when creating the winery, was to ensure a successful marriage between the essential needs of a working winery, and the aesthetic demands of living and working in a small, rural, and relatively un-spoilt region. Local stone was used in the construction and local workmen and women helped in its creation. The working side of the winery has a capacity to produce in excess of 90.000 bottles annually area, and this output will be maintained at this level, in order to ensure the high level of quality control we are known for is consistently maintained.

Visitors are most welcome to visit the winery, here they will be shown how the humble grape can metamorphosis into a true liquid delight.

As this is a working "˜Boutique" winery we do appreciate if those who wish to visit could call ahead of time, this way we can ensure that one of the family will be there to show them round and offer them a tasting of our many liquid delights.

'When there is plenty of wine, sorry and worry take wing'
Ovid

    Excellent Wines

Coming across Tsangarides Winery was a delight. They have not been operating for many years, but their wines have already started winning awards - with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Mataro both winning Gold at the 2nd Cyprus Wine Competition in 2007.

This is the winery that also got me drinking Rose - their Tsangarides Shiraz Dry Rose was not what I was expecting from a rose, but I was pleasantly surprised and have been drinking it the past 2 summers.

If you are ever in Paphos and would like to visit a winery with superb wines, then you can do a lot worse than visit Tsangarides Winery.
